Poetry from Brianna Dawn.

Straight Out

sometimes when i need a quick fix
of something sweet, i’ll just take a spoon
and dip it in a jar of jam, straight out of the jar
no toast or bagels, but i’ll be damned because
oftentimes, that fix doesn’t quite mix up
satisfaction for my restless mind,
kickstart my heart –
i wish to be daring, a little bit more blind
to the constant worries and anxiety pulling me apart –
to feel the heat, grip someone lightly
by the arm, tug them close, straight out of the bar
passionate, unhinged, bold from the start
find someone with my destiny bottled up
inside of them, i’ll spoon it out, right out of the jar
