love, like marbles

the warmth settles against my lips and
presses down against my lungs
the hot chocolate softly says
sweet nothings against my tongue
my heart slipped and fell down my ribs, like rungs,
rung out, i’ve come undone —
i told you those words you said,
they really stung my hopes —
but i take another sip,
my thoughts quietly curling around
the sound of marbles fluttering across my
heart’s blue floors and tiny towns,
slowing to a stop, slightly
tapping the edge of light,
tickling underneath the door, ajar
i might just love you, (but only from afar)

Respond to love, like marbles
