Daily poetry from Brianna Dawn.

goggles and pawns

freckles on the skin
hide the blossoming
youth within
lush hair, like a cape of
leaves, shadowing
a flushed, untouched face
that has yet to feel
the fall of autumn
as it begins to trace
oranges and plum purples
across the glum,
buzz-cut lawn
do deer see through the same
goggles of innocence
like those of a fawn?
i wonder if humankind
is the only species which
plays one another
like pawns

“I wonder if humankind is the only species which plays one another like pawns”
Sometimes I wonder if we are actually the most intelligent species.
