Poetry from Brianna Dawn.

the compounded heart

some words wear sad faces
when they are placed side by side
with other words trying to hitch a ride
to steal and weigh in on their graces –
heartbreak, heartache,
coldhearted, halfhearted –
when they walk by, holding hands
you want to take them apart
