Daily poetry from Brianna Dawn.

heart grows soft
and suddenly, from somewhere
out of the air fogged up by
mist, clouds, and smoke of the years
burning and drifting away
with each and every heartbeat –
my breath once held, now escaped
into the blue of a night sky –
an old song resurfacing from the depths,
heart regaining sight …
unfolding something, an unburied
piece of gold, making the heart
younger again, but leaving the mind
with cold hands, feeling older
